Hogue Winery’s 2015 Riesling scored 86 points on Wine Enthusiast. The majority of the Washington’s wine grapes are planted east of the Cascade Range in the Columbia Valley appellation, which encompasses the Yakima Valley and Walla Walla appellations. The climate and soils produce grapes with intense fruit flavors and high natural acidity. The Columbia Valley covers 18,000 square miles and provides a huge range of geographical and climatic conditions for grape growing. This diversity creates distinctive fruit characteristics from individual sites and offers a myriad of stylistic options to winemakers. The 2015 Riesling reveals ripe aromas and flavors of apple and lime with subtle notes of peach and melon. The wine is crisp and well balanced with an off-dry style. Constant awards and accolades grew the company from 2,000 cases in 1982 to 5,000 in 1983 to 10,000 in 1984. By 1996, an expansion project was completed boosting Hogue’s production capacity to 400,000 cases.
